Basic Rider Course

Description:
The best place for a new rider to start once they've made the decision to ride. This course isdesigned for beginning riders. Students will learn to operate the controls of a motorcycle as well as develop basic riding skills to do some of the basic maneuvers required to ride on the street. The Basic Rider Course is designed to prepare riders for entry into the complex world of traffic. Students will learn how to assess risks when riding and how to develop strategies to reduce those risks. This is accomplished through classroom and on-motorcycle instruction, and includes a variety of learning activities.

Classroom experiences consist of 5 hours of RiderCoach led discussions and the utilization of interactive multimedia. Riding experience is gained by using several different riding exercises that progress from basic control use to more complex street maneuvers. The riding portion is approximately 10 hours of riding consisting of two 5 hour sessions each day. On-motorcycle instruction is conducted on a paved area away from street traffic. There is both an exam after the classroom portion and an exam after completion of all the riding exercises. Students must pass both portions to receive their MSF certification.

The primary goal of the Basic Rider Course is to provide an introduction to the fundamentals of safe, responsible motorcycling. This includes the knowledge and skills that lead to licensing and motorcycle operation on the streets and highways. Certified MSF RiderCoaches provide a low risk, positive learning environment.

The course is based on years of scientific research and fieldexperience which has successfully trained over 4 million participants to date. It has been tested with several hundred novice riders and has proven to be successful in developing the entry-level skills for riding in traffic. The MSF Basic Rider Course teaches fundamental skills and is not intended to produce the superb riding skills of an experienced rider; rather, it provides the basic entry-level skills for a new rider to begin practicing and developing the mental and motor skills important for safe street operation.*

Students must come to the class properly prepared to ride with long sleeved shirt or jacket, long pants, over the ankle footwear, full fingered gloves, eye protection, and DOT approved helmet. Arkansas Safe Rider has a limited number of " loaner" helmets, gloves and eye protection.

Arkansas Safe Rider provides the training motorcycles.
